Guerrilla Gardening, phase 2 (year 2)

Guerrilla Gardening: Vasaparken, Falun 2009-

Last weekend Karin and I visited Falun and we were happy to see that our yellow crocus trail is back on the slope of Vasaparken. It looks slightly different from last year so perhaps only one of the two flower types used survived this year's cold winter - or the remaining ones have yet to wake up from their winter sleep.

It's only the trail's second year and already it offers a sense of familiar recollection. Like seeing an old friend.

Guerrilla Gardening, phase 2 (year 1)

Spring has arrived in Falun! The result of Karin's and my efforts in October last year, as part of our Guerrilla Gardening project, has begun to reveal itself as planned and a trail of yellow crocus flowers now stretches from Vasaparken down to the road island.

As crocuses are perennial they will continue to surface on this spot in coming years. There's also a possibility that Karin and I will make additions to this project in various ways.

Guerrilla Gardening: Vasaparken, Falun 2009-

Two weekends ago, garden designer Karin Nordmark and I headed out into Falun to launch a Guerrilla Gardening venture that stretches into next year - and beyond. It is sprung from one of Karin's earlier projects involving the Guerilla Gardening concept but has surely also benefited from our last colloboration (namely the previously mentioned correspondence project that we have been running throughout this year and which recently ended).

During our 5 hours of work on this rather chilly Saturday night we encountered three initially suspicous but later friendly police officers and an assortion of talkative passers-by in various stages of alcohol intoxication, among others.

The chosen site consists of a centrally located grass slope stretching from Vasaparken over to a spacious road island that used to harbour a flower bed spelling "welcome", which has apparently been discontinued.

We now await spring.

2D variation

I've had the opportunity to get some fun variation lately, both with the correspondence project (see below) and 2D work. Last month I made a cd-cover for the Gothenburg-based musician Euphoria and the lazy boy, just in time for his European tour together with Winter Took His Life, Hajen and Tvärvägen.

Correspondence project throughout 2009

Since March, garden designer Karin Nordmark and I have been involved in a new correspondence project. The project (currently without a more specific title) is defined by a mutually formulated framework and propelled by the periodic exchange of instructions aimed at altering and developing a given position or 'state'. It's an attractive project in that it is simultaneously collaborative and individual, both rigid and open-ended.

Part of the agreement is to keep each of our processes confidential until the completion of the project, and for that reason I probably won't post much about it here as we go along. The nature of the framework does however open up for many potential approaches...

The correspondence project will continue throughout this year.

Installation views & details

"Det är inte kunskap vi saknar. Vad som fattas oss är modet att inse vad vi vet och dra slutsatserna." - Sven Lindqvist
('We don't lack knowledge. What we lack is the courage to realise what we know and draw the conclusions')

Instead of using an 'idea' as starting-point, this work derives from the colours gold, orange and green and the architecturally varied space of the gallery. Some parts were finalised on site as they depend on fixed features found in the premises.
