RIA NO, 10 April - 5 May 2008

My first solo show opens next Thursday at Galleri Hörnan, in my birth town Falun. The work involves parts from my graduation exhibition, but under new direction.

Throughout the year the concern has been with groups and crowds, and the terrible and wonderful things the human collective can bring about, not in least in terms of the environment. That's not easy to shake off. But after having been moved in well-packed cartons from one half of the globe to the other, these same objects also symbolise something else: What one brings along, and what one leaves behind. Prejudices and expectations of some far away place, and that which is 'Lost in Translation' along the way.

Opening event Thursday 10 April, 16h00 - 18h00.

Galleri Hörnan
Östra Hamngatan 24
Falun, Sweden
Tel: +46 (0)23 833 36

Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 10-19, Fri 10-18, Sat 11-15

The exhibition is on until May 5.

RIA NO? Does it actually mean anything?? "Rice In Asia Not Optional"? "Risky Internal Affairs Never Occured", misspelled Piano, ON AIR backwards or is it just jibberish? I´m dying to find out, ta-ta

As always, a million thoughts and ideas feed into the making of something, but once one is asked to explain the concluding decision it seems banal. I like your suggestions!

And it’s funny you should mention ‘piano’ - that was the working title, but I decided it didn’t make sense.

I understand your point, yet in order for people to communicate(although poorly)we often see the need of generalizing, categorizing these thoughts and ideas. Do we lack the ability to communicate and setting correct labels which results in a RIA NO? Maybe i´m the one with the jibberish, just trying to create my own interpretation.

And your right, RIA NO makes more sense than Piano.

Sometimes it's the simple things that fascinate us the most :)

Correct, but sometimes simplicity and banana peelings can annoy the crap out of you.
